SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - For the second straight day the Western New England College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Springfield Tom Hay Invitational.
Saturday (Oct. 10), the Golden Bears dropped a 3-0 decision to host Springfield. The first two games were close 25-21 and 25-23 before the Pride (19-3) rolled in the final contest 25-7.
WNEC then played its fourth day in less than 24 hours and defeated a good Colby-Sawyer team 3-1. The game scores were 25-22, 17-25, 25-17, and 25-23. The Chargers are 14-5.
Junior setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) made the All-Tournament Team after compiling 125 assists and 44 digs in the tournament. She had a double-double with 25 assists and 13 digs against the Chargers.
Senior outside hitter Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) had a solid performance with six kills/10 digs against Springfield and 12 kills/nine digs against Colby-Sawyer.
Junior outside hitter Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) added six kills and 10 digs against Springfield, and nine digs against Colby-Sawyer.
Junior middle blocker Lauren Landri (New Canaan, CT) contributed 10 kills against the Chargers while senior middle blocker Christina Longto (Kingston, NY) had seven blocks (five solo).
Western New England College now has a 17-8, which equals last year's win total.
