Rachel Cervone hits milestone as Golden Bears hand Colby-Sawyer first TCCC loss

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior outside hitter Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) had 17 kills, including the 1,000th of her career, as the Western New England College women's volleyball team handed Colby-Sawyer its first loss in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with a 3-0 victory Tuesday night (Oct. 20) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

The game scores were 25-19, 25-13, and 25-22.

Cervone dominated the match with her second highest kill total of the season and best performance of the year in a three-set contest. She also compiled 17 digs and four service aces.

Cervone, who now has 1,006 kills, became the fourth player in school history to reach the milestone behind Ashley O'Keefe (1,305), Amy Lorinovich (1,230), and Brenda Post (1,224).

Junior setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) contributed 43 assists for her second best effort of the campaign.

Junior middle blocker Lauren Landi (New Canaan, CT) contributed 10 kills while junior libero Marci Egbert (Wayne, NJ) had 18 digs.

Cervone and middle blocker Christina Longto (Kingston, NY) were honored before the match during “Senior Night” activities. Both serve as team captains with Boes.

The Golden Bears hiked their record to 21-8 overall and 6-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).

Junior outside hitter Michelle Doody (Franklin, MA) led the Chargers with 10 kills while junior middle hitter Stef Turner (Boxborough, MA) had seven kills and sophomore right side hitter Kristin Sawyer (Walpole, MA) six.

Senior libero Mickey Lapan (Medway, MA) contributed eight digs and senior setter Genny Moore (Centerville, MA) 23 assists.

This was Western New England College's second win over Colby-Sawyer in 10 days. The Golden Bears posted a 3-1 victory at the Springfield Tom Hay Invitational on October 10.

The Chargers are now 16-7 overall and 7-1 in the conference.
