Western New England College wins three matches to capture Salem State Invitational title

SALEM, Mass.
- The Western New England College women's volleyball team won three matches to finish in first place at the Salem State Invitational Saturday (Oct. 3) at Twohig GHymnasium.

The Golden Bears defeated Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) (25-16, 25-22, 25-1), Salem State (25-10, 25-23, 25-13), and Southern Maine (25-12, 25-7, 25-13) by identical 3-0 scores.

Junior setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) was named the Tournament MVP after compiling 78 assists in the tournament, including 30 against Mount St. Mary's.

Junior outside hitter Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) made the All-Tournament Team. She finished with 21 kills and nine service aces (including six against Mount Saint Mary.

Senior outside hitter Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) added 16 kills in the three matches and had eight digs against Salem State.

Freshman outside hitter Jennifer Mears (Amherst, MA) contributed 15 kills with six coming against both Mount Saint Mary and Southern Maine.

Western New England College has a 14-6 record with a seven-match winning streak.
