Box Score Golden Bears run winning streak to four contests
WENHAM, Mass. -- The Western New England College women's basketball team is playing with a lot of heart.
In a Saturday afternoon (Feb. 14) Valentine's Day outing, the Golden Bears ran their winning streak to four games with a 53-37 victory over Gordon College.
Junior guard Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, NH) once again led the attack by scoring 21 points, including 16 in the second half. She also grabbed a game high nine rebounds, dished out three assists, and had three steals.
Al-Darraji, who has 108 points in her last four contests, made 9-of-17 shots from the field and was 7-for-8 in the second stanza.
Junior forward Cailtin Powers (Scotia, NY) provided a big lift by adding 10 points in a resrerve role.
Freshman forward Sarah Proper (Coxsackie, NY) scored only four points, but pulled down eight rebounds and had a game best four assists.
Senior guard Katie Arey (Enfield, NH) chipped-in with five points, five rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals.
Western New England College led 22-14 at halftime and shot 50% from the field after intermission.
The Golden Bears' defense came through with another top performance limiting Gordon to only 21.6% shooting from the floor while forcing 20 turnovers.
Junior forward Rebecca Carroll (Pleasant Valley, NY) led the the Fightin Scots with 12 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Freshman guard Heather DeKleine (Wayland, MI) contributed eight points and five rebounds.
Western New England College evens its record at 11-11 and improves to 7-4 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
Gordon falls to 4-19 and 3-8 in the league.
