Western New England College wraps up season with shutout loss against Nichols

HARRISVILLE, R.I. - A tough season came to an end as the Western New England College men's hockey team dropped a 7-0 decision against No. 14 Nichols Sunday afternoon (Feb. 22) at the June Rockwell Levy Rink.

Sophomore forward Matt Sayer (Lowell, MA) scored two goals and had two assists for the Bison.

Junior forward Zeke Costello (Shelby Township, MI) also had a pair of goals along with an assist.

Senior goalie Keith Fink (Easton, MD) stopped 14 shots for the shutout.

The game was scoreless until Nichols tallied four times in the second period (two on power plays) and three times in the final period.

Junior goalie Justin Richards (Somers, CT) finished with 36 saves for the Golden Bears with 17 coming in the middle period.

Western New England College finished with a disappointing 3-20-2 record, including a 3-12-2 mark in the ECAC Northeast.

Nichols captured the regular season league title with a 16-1 record while improving its overall mark to 22-3, the most wins in school history.
