Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior forward Kyle Cook (Chino Hills, CA) scored the winning goal on a power play shot with 24 seconds remaining left in the third period to lead the Suffolk men's hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Western New England College in an ECAC Northeast game Thursday night (Feb. 5) at Smead Arena.
The win gave the Rams a 5-13-2 record and 4-6-1 mark in the league. The Golden Bears fall to 2-16-1 and 2-8-1 in the ECAC.
Western New England College took a 1-0 lead when senior forward Mike Majesty (Chicago, iL) scored at 5:53 of the first period with an assist from senior defenseman Chris Gillman (Wingdale, NY).
Suffolk tied the contest on a power play goal by senior forward Dan Pencinger (Randolph, NJ) at 2:34 of the second stanza.
Sophomore goalie Jeff Rose (Collinsville, CT) compiled 23 saves for the visitors, including 14 in the final period.
Sophomore goalie Justin Richards (Somers, CT) had another strong performance for the Golden Bears finishing with 29 saves.
It was a hard-hitting, physical game with 21 penalties worth 53 minutes (Suffolk 11 for 30, WNEC 10 for 23).
The contest started almost 90 minutes late after Suffolk had bus problems in Boston.
