Box Score WESTFIELD, Mass. – Freshman forward A.J. Shiverdecker (Kettering, OH) had two goals and two assists while sophomore forward Dennis Zak (Dover, NJ) added a goal and three assists to lead the Westfield State men's hockey team to a 7-0 victory over Western New England College in an ECAC Northeast game Sunday afternoon (Feb. 8) at Amelia Park Arena.
The Owls scored three goals in the opening 4:03 and were never threatened in raising their record to 11-4-4 and 7-3-3 in the conference. WNEC dropped to 2-17-1 and 2-9-1 in the conference.
The Golden Bears had a 31-29 edge in shots, but went 0-for-8 in power play opportunities as sophomore goalie Ray Morone (Shrewsbury, MA) posted the shutout.
It was a rough game with 31 penalties worth 65 minutes (WNEC 16/32, Westfield State 15/33).
Freshman forwards Matt Cattivera (Encinitas, CA) (goal, assist) and Pat Nelson (Cary, NC) (three assists) combined for five points.
Westfeld State led 4-0 after the opening period and 6-0 after 40 minutes in sweeping the season series.
The Owls earlier defeated the Golden Bears 5-2 in the inaugural Falcons' Cup on Nov. 22 at the MassMutual Center.
