FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Western New England College softball team split another twinbill at the Gene Cusic Classic Sunday (March 15) defeating St. Lawrence 15-1 in five innings before losing to Plymouth State by the score of 5-0.
In the first game, the Golden Bears' three through five hitters went 10-for-10 with 12 runs-batted-in.
Senior designated player Brittany DeGennaro (Orange, CT) led the 18-hit attack by going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, four runs, and seven RBI.
Freshman third base player Sarah Lempicki (Southington, CT) followed by going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs, and two RBI.
Sophomore second base player Elyse Gauvin (Swansea, MA) enjoyed a 3-for-3 outing with a double, walk, and three RBI.
Sophomore first base player Trish Breault (Millville, MA) went 3-or-3 with a walk and four runs from her leadoff spot.
Junior Vic Lospinuso (West Islip, NY) pitched the first four innings giving up six hits with three strikeouts and no walks in gaining her first win of the season.
In the second game, senior Courtney MacFarland (Hampstead, NH) cooled off the Golden Bears' bats by tossing a five-hitter striking out eight and giving up only one walk for her fifth career shutout.
Western New England College has a 2-2 record while PSU (who beat St. Lawrence 6-1) improves to 2-0.
