BEVERLY, Mass. - The Western New England College softball team split a doubleheader with host Endicott taking the opener 5-1 before falling 9-4 in the second game.
Freshman Sarah Lempicki (Southington, CT) tossed a one-hitter in the first game in handing the hosts their first loss in The Commownealth Coast Conference (TCCC) this spring. She also knocked in the first run of the game with an RBI single in the third inning.
Sophomore first base player Trish Breault (Millville, MA) had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and scored a run with one RBI.
Freshman catcher Sara Barnes (Berkley, MA) also collected three hits, scored two runs, and contributed an RBI.
In the second contest, the Gulls scored six runs in the third inning and that was enough to hand the Golden Bears their first conference loss in eight outings.
Breault, Barnes, and junior centerfielder Lauren Arsenault (Fitchburg, MA) each had two hits to pace the visitors.
Western New England Collegenow has a 15-7 overall record and 7-1 mark in the league.
Endicott is 18-4 overall and 9-1 in the conference.
