SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Kate Cioffi (Essex, VT) captured both her No. 1 singles and doubles matches as the visiting Endicott women's tennis team knocked Western New England College from the unbeaten ranks with a 5-4 victory Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 16).
The Gulls are now 4-2 overall and 2-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
The Golden Bears fall to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the league.
Cioffi lost only two points in taking her singles match and teamed with senior Alyson Boehm (Lowell, MA) for an 8-4 win in doubles action.
Seniors Nicole Breting (Johnston, RI) and Lori Wardner (Wrentham, MA) took the No. 2 doubles flight by an 8-4 margin. Breting then won her No. 2 singles and Wardner the No. 3 singles match in straight sets.
Western New England College sophomore Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, MA) captured her No. 5 singles flight in straights and took the No. 3 doubles match with freshman Linda Mustafa (Chicopee, MA).
Senior Kelly Murnane (Cheshire, CT) and junior Ashley Czelatka (Southampton, NY) each won their No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, respectively, in straight sets.
