SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College women's tennis team captured the final three singles matches for an exciting 5-4 victory over visiting Roger Williams Saturday afternoon (Sept. 26).
The Golden Bears are now 7-2 overall while the Hawks drop to 5-4. Both teams are 5-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
Trailing 4-2, WNEC senior co-captain
Colleen Swan (Milford, CT) rallied for a three-set win at the No. 6 singles position as did freshman
Linda Mustafa (Chicopee, MA) at No. 3 singles.
Senior
Kelly Murnane (Cheshire, CT) then came through with a three-set win at No. 4 four singles in the deciding match.
Sophomores
Nicole DeSimone (Feeding Hills, MA) and
Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, MA) each were winners at the No. 1 and No. 5 singles spots, respectively.
Roger Williams started strong by taking all three doubles matches.
Freshman
Tracy Klein (New City, NY) won her No. 2 singles flight in straight sets after teaming with sophomore
Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, MA) for a win at No. 2 doubles.
