DANBURY, Conn. - The Western New England College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in the final day of action at the WestConn Invitational Saturday (Sept. 5).
The Golden Bears suffered a 3-1 loss to Coast Guard by the scores of 25-13, 25-14, 25-27, and 25-21 in their first match of the day.
Host Western Connecticut then rallied for a 3-2 win over WNEC in the final match of the tournament. The game scores were 18-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, and 15-11.
Western New England College junior outside hitter
Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) made the All-Tournament Team. She had 10 kills, 13 digs, and five aces against Coast Guard and nine kills, 12 digs, and three aces against WCSU.
Sophomore setter
Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) contributed 22 assists and 10 digs against Coast Guard and 32 assists with 13 digs against Western Connecticut.
Senior outside hitter
Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) had six kills against the Cadets along with 13 kills and eight digs vs. the Colonials.
Junior libero
Marci Egbert (Wayne, NJ) chipped-in with 37 assists in the two matches, including 25 against WestConn.
Western New England College now has a 1-3 record.
In other matches, Johnson & Wales defeated Western Connecticut 3-2 and lost to Coast Guard 3-1.
Coast Guard was 4-0 in the two-day event as freshman
Keriann Mason (Highland, CA) was named the Tournament MVP.
The All-Tournament Team also included
