NEWPORT, R.I. - The Western New England College women's tennis team remained undefeated after posting a 6-3 victory over host Salve Regina Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 8). The Golden Bears are now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
Freshman
Linda Mustafa (Chicopee, MA) had a big day for WNEC winning her number three singles match and teaming with sophomore
Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, MA) to capture the number three doubles event. Barbarisi posted a win at the number five singles flight.
Senior
Kelly Murnane (Cheshire, CT) and junior
Ashley Czelatka (Southampton, NY) also posted wins in singles and doubles competition.
They compiled an important 9-7 victory at the number two doubles position before Murnane took her number four singles match and Czelatka her number six singles set.
SRU junior
Erin Phillips (Moorestown, RI) was the winner at the number one singles position and at the number one doubles spot with senior
Jessica Timpano (Narragansett, RI).
The Seahawks fall to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
