SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Brendan Murphy (West Springfield, MA) posted his first career double-double with 16 points and a career high 12 rebounds as the Western New England College men's basketball team gained a 76-57 victory over Roger Williams Tuesday night (Jan. 12) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

The Golden Bears, who bounced back from a disappointing home loss against Curry on Saturday, raised their overall record to 5-7 and 1-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The Hawks drop to 9-5 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Murphy sank 6-of-9 shots from the floor and had three three-pointers to go along with 11 defensive rebounds and two steals.

WNEC also received double digit scoring from sophomore guard Andre Shaw (Jamaica, NY) (15 points), and senior guards Chris Devine (Wilbraham, MA) (14 points) and Rick Johnson (Springfield, MA) (13 points).

Devine had a great night pulling down 10 rebounds for his first career double-double as well while dishing out five assists and making two steals.

Junior forward Brad Thomka (Springfield, MA) also contributed to the win with eight points and a career high 15 rebounds coming off the bench.

WNEC held a 31-23 advantage at halftime before the Hawks knocked the lead to three at 39-36 when junior guard Corey Fava (Aliso Viejo, CA) made two free throws with 12:53 remaining. Roger Williams was still in the game trailing 47-40 before WNEC used a 14-3 run to break the game open.

The highlight was a fast break basket by Thomka following a great feed from Johnson that gave the hosts a 61-43 lead with 3:56 left.

Junior forward Taylor Petrucceli (Stratford, CT) led the Hawks with 16 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Gary Madison (Waterbury, CT) added 13 points and seven rebounds. Fava finished with nine points and a game high six assists with a pair of steals.

Western New England College shot 37.5% from the field while the cold-shooting Hawks managed only to connect on 29.4% of their shots. The Golden Bears also held a commanding 64-40 edge off the boards,
