Wesleyan hands visiting Western New England College first loss of the season

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.
- Junior forward Melanie Ferdinand (Califon, NJ) had 11 points and six rebounds as the Wesleyan women's basketball team defeated Western New England College 61-41 in a non-league contest Tuesday evening (Nov. 30) at Silloway Gym.

The Cardinals stayed perfect at 3-0 while the Golden Bears fall to 4-1 with their first loss of the season.

Junior forward Eileen Gaffney (Manhasset, NY) added 10 points and seven rebounds while senior guard Erin Gold (New Hope, PA) also tossed in 10 points with four steals.

Sophomore guard Emily Savino (Ellington, CT) led WNEC with 11 points. Senior forward Taryn Belowsky (New Haven, CT) contributed 10 points and a team high five rebounds.

Western New England College held a one-point lead (19-18) with 8:45 left in the opening half before Wesleyan used a 14-0 run to take a 34-24 advantage at the break.

The Golden Bears were still in the game trailing by 40-30 at the 13:28 mark, but the Cardinals broke the contest open with a 13-0 run over the next eight minutes.
