Western New England College uses second half surge to top Becker

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
– Senior forward Kelly McCormick (Manchester, CT) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Western New England College women's basketball team to a 64-34 win over Becker Saturday afternoon (Dec. 4) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

After taking a slim 27-24 lead into the half, the Golden Bears pulled away in the second stanza outscoring the Hawks 37-10.

Sophomore guard Shelby Van Huysen (Killingworth, CT) tied McCormick for the team lead with 14 points. Senior forward Taryn Belowsky (New Haven, CT) contributed 11 points, four assists, and four rebounds.

Freshman guards Ali Pessolano (Hampden, MA) and Katie Eckert (Lee, MA) scored eight and five points, respectively.

The Hawks were led by freshman forward Tatiana Mojica (Worcester, MA) who scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds off the bench.

Freshman guard Chelsea Joubert (Westborough, MA) and senior forward Heidi Miller (Sanbornton, NH) each contributed six points.

The Golden Bears improve to 5-1 on the year while the Hawks slip to 1-5 on the season.

Western New England College returns to action on Tuesday (Dec. 7) with a home game against Fitchburg State starting at 5:30 p.m.
