BOSTON, Mass. - The Western New England College men's hockey team put together a solid effort before bowing to Suffolk 3-2 in the final game of the ECAC Northeast regular season Sunday (Feb. 21).
The Golden Bears, who are 3-20-1, placed seventh in he league with a 2-12 record. The Rams improved to 12-10-3 after finishing third in the conference with an 8-4-2 mark.
Suffolk scored late in the first period and early in the second stanza for a 2-0 lead before freshman forward
Blake Lucier (Scarborough, ME) put th Golden Bears on the board at 16:27 of the second period. Sophomore forward
Mike Kaselouskas (East Longmeadow, MA) and junior forward
Chris Beaudoin (Enfield, CT) earned the assists.
WNEC tied the game on a goal by sophomore defenseman
Joe Deptula (Anchorage, AK) at 3:22 of the final period with assists from sophomore forwards
Kory Grahl (San Diego, CA) and
Rory Hansen (Noblesville, IN).
Freshman forward
Andrew Monesi (Boston, MA) knocked home the game-winner just 1:58 later to give the Rams the season sweep. Suffolk downed WNEC 3-1 back on January 21 in Springfield. Monesi also assisted on the second goal.
Junior goalie
Jeff Rose (Collingsville, CT) finished with 31 saves for the hosts while freshman
T.J. Fatse (Hampden, MA) stopped 33 shots for the Golden Bears.
Western New England College will meet Curry in a quarterfinal round game of the ECAC Northeast Tournament on Saturday (Feb. 27). Game time will be announced.
