Ceciley Chisholm (Lexington, MA) had a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds as second-seeded Endicott defeated seventh-seeded Western New England College 59-57 in a quarterfinal round game of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Women's Basketball Tournament Tuesday night (Feb. 23).
Junior center
Ashley Vitale (Wilmington, MA) also compiled a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Gulls improved their record to 19-6.
Western New England College made things close in the final minute getting within 56-55 when senior guard
Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, NH) drained a three-pointer with 45 seconds left.
Chisholm, TCCC Co-Player-of-the-Year, made a layup with 18 seconds remaining and sank a free throw nine seconds later for a four-point lead.
WNEC freshman guard
Emily Savino (Ellington, CT) scored on a layup with three seconds to go that completed the scoring.
Al-Darraji finished with 17 points and five rebounds while Savino added 12 points with three assists.
Freshman center
Elena Radzikowski (Medway, MA) contributed 11 points and five rebounds coming off the bench.
This was the second barn burner between the teams this season. The Golden Bears took a 97-91 double overtime decision back on January 16 in Springfield.
Despite the loss, it was a successful season for coach
Nicole Chaszar's team who finished with a 15-10 record after posting a 12-13 mark last winter.
