MILTON, Mass. - Sophomore forward Steven Mohler (Anaheim, CA) scored four goals and had three assists as second-seeded Curry rolled to a 13-2 victory over Western New England College in a quarterfinal round game of the 2010 ECAC Northeast men's hockey tournament Saturday, February 27.
Sophomore forward Payden Benning (Saskatchewan, CAN) added three goals and freshman forward Connor Hendry (Alberta, CAN) four assists for the Colonels who raised their record to 17-8-1.
Curry led 2-0 after the opening period and 5-0 in the second period before freshman forward Anthony Willett (Springfield, MA) scored a pair of power play goals in 71 seconds, the last coming at the 7:51 mark.
Sophomore forward Kory Grahl (San Diego, CA) and Wingdale, NY) and senior defenseman Chris Gillman (Wingdale, NY) had the assists on the first goal. Gillman and sophomore forward Rory Hansen (Noblesville, IN) assisted on the second goal.
After that, it was all Curry who scored four more times to take a 9-2 advantage after 40 minutes.
The Colonels tallied three of their final four goals in the last 6:11 of regulation.
Freshman goalie Robert Dawson (Woodbury, MI) finished with 19 saves for the hosts.
Western New England College employed three goalies, freshman T.J. Fatse (Hampden, MA), junior Justin Richards (Somers, CT), and freshman Paul Bloom (Wanaque, NJ). Fatse allowed five goals while Richards and Bloom (who had 12 saves in his collegiate debut) each gave up four scores.
The Golden Bears ended the season with a 3-21-1 record.
