SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
- The Westfield State softball team pushed across two unearned runs in the seventh for a 7-5 victory over Western New England College in windy conditions Wednesday afternoon (March 24).

This was both the home opener for the Golden Bears and the first game played at the team's new field.

Senior shortstop Kim Brennan (Douglas, MA) and senior right fielder Allison Allen (Peabody, MA) had the RBI singles in the final frame.

Western New England College sophomore designated player Sarah Lempicki (Plantsville, CT) had the best day of her young career by going 4-for-4 with five runs-batted-in. She belted a pair of two-run homers in both the third and fifth innings, and delivered a key RBI single in the sixth that tied the game.

Junior first base player Trish Breault (Millville, MA) had three singles and scored a run for the Golden Bears while junior left fielder Erin Griffin (Lowell, MA) walked three times.

Westfield State sophomore Madeline Tomich (Alford, MA) pitched a complete game despite giving up eighth hits and walking seven. She was tough when it counted striking out 10, including two in the seventh when WNEC had runners on first and second with no outs.

Sophomore center fielder Kerin DeGirolamo (North Attleboro, MA) singles, homered, and scored a pair of runs. Junior third base player Alicia Paterson (Nantucket, RI) also had two hits, a sacrifice, and two runs scored.

The Owls improve their record to 6-4 while the Golden Bears fall to 3-8 after making four errors that led to four unearned runs.
