PAXTON, Mass. - The Western New England College men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a 9-0 victory over Anna Maria Wednesday evening (March 3) at the Paxton Sports Center.

Junior co-captains Brian Relihan (Orange, CT) and Mike Jones (Stone Ridge, NY) captured their number one and two singles matches, respectively, in straight sets, and teamed for an 8-1 victory at the top doubles position.

Freshman Chris Holzinger (Foster, RI) had a successful college debut by taking his number three singles match, then teaming with sophomore JonPaul Ouellette (Bethlehem, CT) at the number two doubles spot. Ouellette was the winner at number four singles.

Junior Matt Minahan (Plymouth, MA) blanked his opponent at the number five singles position. He and junior Travis Orszulak (Springfield, MA) posted a win at number three doubles.

Orszulak, who also was making his Golden Bears' debut, capped off a great college debut by blanking his AMC rival at number six singles.

This was the opener for Western New England College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.

The Golden Bears, who dropped a 6-3 decision to Springfield last fall, are now 1-1. The AMCATS are 0-1.
