SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Salve Regina men's tennis team captured several close matches in posting a 9-0 victory over Western New England College Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 21).

This was the first loss in six outings for the Golden Bears who now have a 9-7 record and 7-3 mark in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The Seahawks improve to 8-10 overall and 6-3 in the league.

SRU senior Andrew Martin (Glastonbury, CT) took his number one singles match over junior Brian Relihan (Orange, CT) by the score of 6-4 and 6-2.

Martin and senior Steve Masso (North Scituate, RI) teamed for a win at number one doubles over Relihan and junior Mike Jones (Stone Ridge, NY) by an 8-2 margin.

At number two doubles, freshman Chris Holzinger (Foster, RI) and sophomore JonPaul Ouellette (Bethlehem, CT) fell 8-7 (7-5 in the tie-breaker) to sophomore Zachary Rosenfeld (Easton, CT) and freshman Chad Strong (San Diego, CA).

WNEC junior Travis Orszulak (Springfield, MA) had a strong effort at number five singles before dropping a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 decision to freshman Aaron Isch (Tolland, CT).

Before the match, Relihan and Jones were recognized for their leadership efforts as part of Captain Appreciate Day.
