HENNIKER, N.H. - The Western New England College softball team stayed perfect in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) after defeating host New England College 4-3 in eight innings and 9-4 Saturday afternoon (Apr. 3).
Coach
Lori Mayhew's squad is 8-9 overall and 4-0 in league play. The Pilgrims are 2-12 and 1-3 in the conference.
Sophomore pitcher
Meagan Riemann (Dayville, CT) had a complete game performance in the opener allowing seven hits and two earned runs with a strikeout and walk.
Junior first base player
Trish Breault (Millville, MA) had a single and key RBI triple in the eighth when WNEC scored three times. Senior center fielder
Lauren Arsenault (Fitchburg, MA) added a run-scoring single and sophomore catcher
Rachel Wyrwa (Methuen, MA) a sacrifice fly. She also singled in a run to give WNEC a 1-0 lead in the first.
Riemann retired the first two batters in the eighth before the Pilgrims scored two runs. She then got the final out with the tying run on third.
Western New England College used a 13-hit attack and a four-run fifth inning to take the second game.
Breault had three hits and cored three runs while sophomore designated player
Sarah Lempicki (Southington, CT) knocked in three runs with three hits and scored a pair of runs.
Two freshmen aided the cause as shortstop
Jeana Longo (Schenectady, NY) contributed two hits, two runs, and a RBI, and third base player
Rachelle Fecteau (East Lyme, CT) two hits and two RBI. She also pitched the final two innings in relief striking out two and walking one.
Senior
Victoria Lospinuso (West Islip, NY) gained the win to improve her record to 4-2.
NEC freshman first base player
Alyssa Hoot (Waterville, OH) had a two-run homer in the fifth. Sophomore center fielder
Teraysa White (Belgrade, ME) had a pair of hits and scored a run. Both players had a hit and scored a run in the opener.
Junior shortstop
Rachel White (Arlington, MA) contributed two hits with a RBI in the first game for the Pilgrims.
