Curry wins final two matches to edge Western New England College in conference outing

MILTON, Mass.
– Curry College won the last two singles matches to edge Western New England College 5-4 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) women's tennis action Sunday afternoon (Sept. 19).

The Colonels improved to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference while the Golden Bears drop to 2-3, their same mark in the league.

Curry won two of the three doubles matches as freshmen Emily Mongello (Milton, MA) and Lauren Chuha (Reading, MA) took the number one flight, and freshmen Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, MA) and Devin Curley (Marshfield, MA) the second spot.

Junior Jessica Haffner (Suffield, CT) and senior Ashley Czelatka (Southampton, NY) earned a point for WNEC at number three doubles with an 8-3 decision.

Western New England College moved ahead 5-3 with three wins in the singles competition.

Junior Nicole DeSimone (Feeding Hills, MA) won her number one singles match. Junior Caitlin Hughes (Springfield, MA) and Haffner took their number three and five singles, matches, respectively.

The Colonels rallied for the victory after getting wins from Chula at number four singles, Mongello at the number two flight, and sophomore Kate Johnson (Beverly, MA) at the number six position who battled back for a 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 decision.
