SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Freshman
Liz Lincoln (Plymouth, MA) and sophomore
Claire Toffey (Barnstable, MA) each won both their singles and doubles matches to lead the Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team to a 5-4 victory over host Western New England College in the season opener for both squads Thursday afternoon (Sept. 2).
It also was The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opener for each team.
Lincoln and Coffey won their number four and five singles matches, respectively, after teaming to take their number two doubles match.
For Western New England College, juniors
Nikki DeSimone (Feeding Hills, MA) and
Caitlin Hughes (Springfield, MA) teamed for a close 8-6 win at the number one doubles flight. For Hughes, it was her first collegiate win.
Junior
Chrissy Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, MA) took her number two singles match for the Golden Bears while junior
Amanda Ide (Hamden, CT) posted a win at the number six spot. Senior
Ashley Czeltka (Southampton, NY) and junior
Jess Haffner (Suffield, CT) earned the win at number three doubles.
