Springfield stops Western New England College 8-1 in battle of city rivals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
- Host Springfield College captured all six singles matches in posting an 8-1 victory over Western New England College in a non-league women's tennis match Thursday afternoon (Sept. 23).

This was the first win of the season for the Pride who are now 1-2. The Golden Bears fall to 2-5.

Senior co-captains Amy Shaw (Walpole, MA) and Kyla Walgren (West Hartford, CT) led Springfield with an 8-3 win at the number one doubles position. Shaw only dropped two games in taking the top singles match.

Western New England College's lone point came at number three doubles when senior Ashley Czelatka (Southampton, NY) and junior Jessica Haffner (Suffield, CT) teamed for an 8-1 decision.

There were several close singles matches with Czelatka dropping a three-point tie-breaker at the number six flight. Junior Caitlin Hughes (Springfield, MA) had a competitive match at the three position before losing 7-5, 6-4.
