Western New England College falls to Salve Regina in conference match

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
- Senior Erin Phillips (Morristown, NJ) won both her number one singles and doubles matches as the Salve Regina women's tennis team opened its season with a 7-2 victory over host Western New England College Tuesday (Sept 7).

There were several competitive matches in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) contest with the Seahawks taking five singles and two doubles flights.

Phillips won her singles match in straight sets and teamed with freshman Ana Gwozdz (Taunton, MA) for the doubles win. Gwozdz enjoyed a successful collegiate debut by also winning her number three singles match in straight sets.

Senior Valerie Leso (West Warwick, RI) contributed to the win by capturing her number two doubles flight with junior Nichol Stevens (Chester, CT) and taking her number five singles match.

For the Golden Bears, junior Chrissy Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, MA) won her number two singles match in straight sets. Senior Ashley Czeltaka (Southampton, NY) and junior Jess Haffner (Suffield, CT) teamed for a win at the number three doubles position.

The Golden Bears fall to 0-2, their same mark in the conference.
