BRISTOL, R.I. - Sophomore guard
Elizabeth Kilzi (Waverly, PA) scored 18 points to lead the Roger Williams women's basketball team to a 68-50 victory over Western New England Tuesday evening (Jan. 10).
The Hawks are now 8-3 overall and 2-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Golden Bears drop to 8-4 and 1-1 in the conference.
Kilzi made only 3-of-11 shots from the field, but was outstanding at the foul line sinking 11-of-13 attempts. She also pulled down three rebounds.
RWU held a slim 29-25 lead at halftime, but outscored Western New England 39-25 in the second stanza.
Junior guard
Ryan Weekes (Worcester, MA) made 7-of-12 shots from the field, including a pair of three-pointers, to finish with 16 points. Freshman forward
Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, CT) contributed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
For the Golden Bears, sophomore guard
Shelby Van Huysen (Killingworth, CT) was the only player in double figure with 14 points after connecting on 6-of-12 field goal attempts. Freshman guard
Ali Pessolano (Hampden, MA) had a productive outing with eight points in a reserve role.
Senior forward
Kelly McCormick (Manchester, CT) and sophomore center
Elena Radzikowski (Medway, MA) each grabbed seven rebounds.
Both squads struggled from the field as Roger Williams shot 33.3% and Western New England 34.0%.The Golden Bears held a slight 41-37 edge in rebounds, but again had trouble finishing 22 turnovers compared to only 11 for their opponents.
