Blake Lucier (Scarborough, ME) tallied the game-winning goal 8:36 into the third period to secure a crucial 6-5 win over ECAC Northeast opponent Suffolk Thursday night (Jan. 20) at Steriti Rink.
The Golden Bears (5-10-1, 2-3 ECAC Northeast) jumped out to an early 3-1 lead after the first period with Suffolk (5-10, 1-4) battling back with three unanswered goals in the middle stanza.
Western New England rallied from a 4-3 deficit entering the final period to take a 5-4 lead on goals by freshmen forwards
John Kelly (Long Island, N.Y.) and
Brian Prost (Parma, Ohio) that came 1:36 apart early in the frame.
The Rams evened the score less than three minutes later on a power play goal from senior
Zach Barron (St. Louis, MO).
Lucier then netted the deciding tally nearly two-and-a-half minutes later with an unassisted goal for his first of the season.
Prost and Kelly combined for six points to lead the way, followed by freshman forward
Chris Connors (Albany, NY) who added a pair of assists.
