Johnson & Wales breaks game open in second period to beat Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
-- Junior forward Jeremiah Ketts (Foristell, MO) had a five-point game with a hat trick and two assists to lead the Johnson & Wales men's hockey team to an 8-2 victory over Western New England Saturday afternoon (Jan. 22) at Smead Arena.
 
The Wildcats even their record at 8-8-1 maintain their top spot in the ECAC Northeast with a 5-1 mark. The Golden Bears fall to 5-11-1 and 2-4 in the ECAC.
 
Freshman forward Daniel Kaufmann (Scotch Plains, NJ) added a goal and two assists while sophomore defenseman Trevor Jewell (Belgrade, MT) contributed three assists. Sophomore forward Jason Pietrasiak (Shrewsbury, MA) chipped in with a goal and assist.
 
Scoring goals for Western New England were freshman forward Alan Martin (Monson, MA) and junior forward Kory Grahl (San Diego, CA).
 
JWU led 2-1 after the opening period and broke the game open six unanswered goals with coming in the middle stanza for a 5-1 advantage.
 
Sophomore goalie Matt Cooper (Perrysburg, OH) had 23 saves for the Wildcats in 55 minutes, 13 seconds.
 
Freshman Eric Sorenson (Rochester, NY) played the first two period for the Golden Bears compiling 29 saves.
 
Johnson & Wales was 4-for-5 in power play opportunities and had a 50-27 shot advantage.
