MILTON, Mass. - Junior guard
Michael Connery (Narragansett, RI) led four players in double figures with 20 points as the Curry men's basketball team defeated Western New England 65-55 Saturday (Jan. 9) in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opener for both squads.
The Colonels are now 3-9 while the Golden Bears fall to 0-11.
Connery came off the bench to make 6-of-7 shots from the field, including 5-of-6 from three-point territory. He also sank 3-of-4 foul shots in 17 minutes.
Junior guard
Jarrell Jackson (Brockton, MA) and Sophomore guard
Eric Guglielmello (Paxton, MA) each netted 13 points. Sophomore guard
Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, MA) added 12 points and five assists.
Western New England had two players hit double digits as senior forward
Brad Thomka (Springfield, MA) tossed in 15 points while pulling down five rebounds. Senior guard
Chris Devine (Wilbraham, MA) contributed 11 points and nine rebounds. Senior center Con
or Lomas (Wilbraham, MA) scored only five points, but grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Golden Bears shot 40% from the field and held a 46-31 advantage off the boards. The Golden Bears, however, made only 11-of-26 free-throw attempts (42.3%).
Curry made 37.5% of its field-goal attempts and 71.4% of its foul shots.
