MILTON, Mass. -- Sophomore guard Emily Savino (Ellington, CT) scored 14 points and made a clutch three-pointer in the final minute as the Western New England women's basketball team defeated Curry 60-59 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opener for both squads Saturday afternoon (Jan. 9).

Savino fired in her long distance shot to give the Golden Bears a 60-56 lead with 24 seconds remaining in the game.

Curry got within one when sophomore guard Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, MA) drained a three with three seconds left. Savino then turned the ball over, but senior forward Cortney Robinson (Brockton, MA) missed a jumper at the buzzer.

Sophomore center Elena Radzikowski (Medway, MA) added 11 points while sophomore guard Shelby Van Huysen (Killingworth, CT) tossed in 10 points as Western New England raised its record to 8-3.

Rafferty led the Colonels with 14 points followed by Robinson with 13 and sophomore guard Carolyn Houston (Melrose, NY) with 10. Curry is now 8-2 and has lost two straight after opening the season with eight straight wins.

Western New England led 34-28 at halftime and held its biggest lead at 49-32 when Savino made a three-pointer with 8:53 remaining in the contest.
