BRISTOL, R.I. – Sixth-seeded Western New England saw its fall season come to an with a 5-0 loss at third-seeded Roger Williams in a quarterfinal round contest of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Tennis Championship Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 11).
The Hawks (9-3) dropped only seven games in doubles and two in singles action to advance to the semifinals at second-ranked Endicott on October 19.
Junior
Tracy Klein (New City, RI) and sophomore
Samantha Curran (Cumberland, RI) blanked seniors
Caitlin Hughes (Springfield, MA) and
Nicole DeSimone (Feeding Hills, MA) 8-0 at the number one doubles flight.
Seniors
Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, MA) and
Libby Manger (Lakeville, MA) posted an 8-3 win over seniors
Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, MA) and
Jess Haffner (Suffield, CT) at number two doubles.
At number three doubles, freshman
Hillary Dutton (Cheshire, CT) and senior
Caitlin Osepchuk (Ocean Grove, NJ) took an 8-4 decision over senior
Lori Pagliano (Milford, MA) and sophomore
Kelsey Grode (Fairview, PA).
Wolfe then defeated Haffner 6-1, 6-1 at the number three singles position and Osepchuk downed junior
Alysha Lesieur (Hudson, NH) 6-0, 6-0 at number five singles to end the match.
Western New England (5-6) will resume its season next March with several matches in Florida during spring break. The Golden Bears also hope to make-up two matches that were postponed recently because of rain.
