Western New England opens MIT Tournament with 3-0 loss to #17 UMass-Boston

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Western New England women's volleyball team opened up the MIT Tournament with a 3-0 loss to UMass-Boston, ranked 17th nationally, on Friday (Oct. 13) evening at the duPont Athletic Center.
 
The game scores were 25-19, 25-16, and 25-17.
 
Western New England was led offensively by sophomore outside hitter Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, NY) with 10 kills, and junior setter Heather Mears (Amherst, MA) who dished out 22 assists.
 
Freshman outside hitter Kasey Cameron (Reading, MA) contributed eight kills and two solo blocks.
 
UMass-Boston was led by junior Shannon Thompson (Moorpark, CA) with 10 kills and nine digs.
 
Senior setter Cassy Hanneman (Denver, CO) recorded a game-high 37 assists.
 
The Beacons run their record to 19-2; while the Golden Bears slip to 10-10 on the year.
 
Western New England will face host MIT at 11:00 a.m. and Williams at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 14).
