SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England women's volleyball team enjoyed its best showing of the season after posting non-conference victories over Babson (3-1) and UMass Dartmouth (3-0) Saturday (Oct. 8) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center. The Golden Bears are now 9-9 under first-year coach

The turning point of the day came early in the first set when Western New England rallied from a 17-6 deficit for a 25-22 victory. After winning the second set by a 25-23 margin, Babson posted a 25-17 decision in the third game. Western New England then closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set.
Sophomore middle hitter
Tyler Singh (Dumont, NJ) led the way with nine kills, six blocks, and five digs while freshman outside hitter
Carolyn Hajdusek (Northfield, NH) added eight kills and four digs.
Freshman libero
Grace Kucharski (Avon, CT) contributed 36 digs and four service aces. Junior setter
Heather Mears (Amherst, MA) chipped-in with 35 assists and freshman setter
Kendra Ouimette (Conway, MA) 18 digs.
Babson senior outside hitter
Meg Flaherty (Hollis, NH) had a match high 14 kills. Sophomore libero
Karla Flores (San Juan, PR) compiled 32 digs. Junior setter
Kathleen Lynch (Quincy, MA) dished out 20 assists and freshman outside hitter
Brianna San Diego (Daly City, CA) had four service aces.
Western New England prevailed over UMD by the scores of 25-17, 25-21, and 25-21.
Sophomore outside hitter
Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, NY) led the Golden Bears with 16 kills with freshman outside hitter
Kasey Cameron (Reading, MA) notching 13 kills.
Freshman setter
Val Smith (Norristown, PA) had a double-double with 39 assists and 14 digs.
Also recording double digits in digs were Kucharski (17), Ouimette, (13), and junior
Jennifer Mears (Amherst, MA) (10). Sophomore middle hitter
Ashley McMullen (South Bethlehem, NY) had three blocks.
Senior middle hitter
Cami Ascher (Natick, MA) and outside hitter
Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA) each had seven kills for the Corsairs. Junior setter
Jessica Goncalves (New Bedford, MA) compiled a double-double with 14 assists and 12 digs. Senior libero
Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, MA) also had 12 digs.
In the second match of the day, UMass Dartmouth defeated Babson 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, and 25-23).
Ascher led the winning effort with eight kills while Goncalves had 15 assists. Mastrocola added eight digs.
For the Beavers, Flaherty had 18 kills with Lynch earning a double-double with 32 assists and 13 digs. Freshman outside hitter
Kseniya Stepanova (Upland, CA) had a pair of service aces.
UMass Dartmouth and Babson are now both 11-9.
