SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The seniors led the way on their special day as the Western New England women's tennis team completed its regular season with a 9-0 victory over Eastern Nazarene Saturday (Oct. 8).
The Golden Bears finished with a 5-5 record and were 3-5 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). The Lions end at 2-10 and 0-8 in the conference.
Before the match, coach
Jenn Kolins and her squad honored the five seniors on the team,
Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, MA),
Nicole DeSimone (Feeding Hills, MA), Jess Haffner (Suffield, CT),
Caitlin Hughes (Springfield, MA), and
Lori Pagliano (Milford, CT).
Hughes won her number one singles match 6-1, 6-0 and teamed with DeSimone for an 8-2 victory at number one doubles. DeSimone captured her number second singles match 6-3, 6-2.
Haffner (6-1, 6-2) and Barbarisi (6-1, 6-1) took their number three and four singles flights, respectively, and paired for an 8-2 decision at number two doubles.
Junior
Alysha Lesieur (Hudson, NH) posted a 6-4, 6-1 win at number five singles and Pagliano came away with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number six singles.
Pagliano and sophomore
Kelsey Grode (Fairview, PA) won their number three doubles match 8-0.
Western New England earned the sixth seed in the CCC Championship and will visit third-seeded Roger Williams (8-3, 6-2 CCC) at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 11) in a quarterfinal round match.
