SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The fourth-seeded Western New England women's volleyball squad recorded a thrilling 3-2 victory over the fifth-seeded University of New England in the opening round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship on Wednesday (Nov. 2) evening at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
The Golden Bears (15-13) advance to the semifinals and will travel to top-seeded Roger Williams on Thursday (Nov. 3) at 7:00 p.m.
The squads went back and forth throughout, with neither team able to win consecutive games on the evening.
The match scores were 25-14, 18-25, 25-23, 20-25, and 15-12.
Western New England was led offensively by sophomore outside hitter
Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, NY) with a game-high 15 kills.
Sophomore middle hitter
Ashley McMullen (South Bethlehem, NY) and freshman outside hitter
Kasey Cameron (Reading, MA) each contributed 11 kills for WNE.
The Nor'easters were led by junior middle hitter
Paige Curran (Chelmsford, MA) with a team-high 12 kills and three solo blocks.
Freshman outside hitter
Leah Janelle (Madbury, NH) contributed 10 kills and 15 digs.
Sophomore libero
Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, MA) had a game-high 22 digs for the Nor'easters.
The Golden Bears received a team-high 21 digs from freshman libero
Grace Kucharski (Avon, CT).
The Nor'easters close out their season with a 15-14 overall mark.
