Scoring Summary
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – Sophomore goalie
Eric Sorenson (Fairport, NY) continued his impressive play, recording his first shutout of the season as Western New England earned a 2-0 win over Salve Regina in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast play on Wednesday (Nov. 30) at Portsmouth Abbey Rink.
The Golden Bears improve to 5-2 overall with a 2-1 conference mark; while the Seahawks slip to 3-5 on the year with a 1-3 record in conference.
Western New England opened the scoring at 2:32 of the first period, as sophomore forward
Trent Krueger (White Bear Lake, MN) deflected in a power play goal off a shot from the point from senior forward
Kory Grahl (San Diego, CA) which turned out to be the game-winner.
The two teams remained scoreless over the next 56:29 before sophomore forward
Brandon Stroud (Clarksville, IN) added an empty netter with 39 seconds left to seal the win for WNE.
Western New England held a decisive 44-26 edge in shots.
Sorenson made 26 saves to earn the shutout win between the pipes. He improves his stingy goals against average to 1.76 on the season, with a .946 save percentage.
Junior goalkeeper
Mike McDonald (Whitby, Ontario) kept the Seahawks in the game as he turned away a total of 42 shots on the evening.
The Golden Bears return to action on Saturday (Dec. 3) to host Becker at 7:15 p.m. in ECAC Northeast play.
