SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Western New England's comeback falls just short as Westfield State takes home the fourth annual Falcons Cup with a 4-2 victory in both squads season opener on Friday (Nov. 4) afternoon at the MassMutual Center.
The Owls notched the only goal of the opening period at 12:27 on a shot from freshman forward

Westfield added two quick goals in the second to jump out to a 3-0 advantage.

Brad Norkum (Porcupine, Ontario) scored a power play goal at 3:48 on a feed from Vidoni and senior forward

Freshman forward
Frank Zuccaro (Newmarket, Ontario) lit the lamp at 8:08 of the second on assists from freshman forward
Peter Ranieri (Oakville, Ontario) and senior forward
A.J. Shiverdecker (Kettering, OH).
The Golden Bears cut the lead to 3-1 at 12:38 of the second period on a beautiful unassisted short-handed goal from freshman forward
Brandon Stroud (Clarksville, IN).
WNE came out strong in the third period, as sophomore forward
Alan Martin (Monson, MA) scored on assists from classmates
Trent Krueger (White Bear Lake, MN) and
Dan Monahan (Monroe, NY) at 2:31 to cut the lead to 3-2.
Westfield freshman defender
Billy Miller (Morgan Hill, CA) added an empty net goal at 19:18 to seal to the win for the Owls.
Sophomore goaltender
Eddie Davey (Orangeville, Ontario) compiled 21 saves to earn the win between the pipes.
WNE sophomore goalie
Eric Sorenson (Fairport, NY) recorded 24 stops in the loss.
The Golden Bears return to action on Thursday (Nov. 10) to face Johnson & Wales in the Pepperidge Farm Classic at Daniel Horgan Memorial Ice Rink in Auburn, Mass. at 7:30 p.m.
