Western New England makes successful trip to New York City with 68-60 win over Berkeley

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Senior guard Andre Shaw(New York, NY) led four players in double figures with 23 points as the Western New England men's basketball team posted a 68-60 victory over Berkeley (NY) Saturday afternoon (Dec. 10).

The Golden Bears are now 4-4 under Mike Theulen who returned as coach this season, which equals last year's entire win total. The Knights fall to 6-4.

Shaw enjoyed a successful return to his hometown by also grabbing six rebounds with four assists. He made 5-of-9 shots from the field and 11-of-12 free throws.

Junior guard Damon Alston (New Britain, CT) added 18 points while sophomore forward Daniel Minto (West Hempstead, NY) made a tremendous contribution with 14 points and eight rebounds coming off the bench.

Sophomore center Dennis Rinaldi (Harrison, NY) chipped-in with 10 points and four rebounds.

Western New England had a strong start taking a 13-point lead at 21-8 before the Knight cut the margin to four (27-23) at halftime.

Berkeley took its first and only lead of the game at 28-27 on a three-point play by sophomore center Jose Stable (Brooklyn, NY) at the 18:16 mark. The Golden Bears built their margin to 38-32 after Alston drained a three-pointer with 14:41 left.

Stable then made another three-point play to get the hosts within one at 42-41 four minutes later, but Western New England maintained its lead over the next 10 minutes taking an eight-point advantage (63-55) when Rinaldi sank two foul shots with 2:26 remaining.

Stable compiled a double-double for Berkeley with 24 points and 18 rebounds. He also had four steals. Junior guard Kaseem Williams (Brooklyn, NY) netted 11 points.
