WENHAM, Mass. - The Western New England women's basketball team made 11-of-25 three-pointers (44.0%) in posting a 72-52 victory over host Gordon Saturday afternoon (Feb. 12) at the Bennett Center.
The victory gave the Golden Bears a 13-10 record and 5-6 mark in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Fighting Scots drop to 2-21 and 1-10 in the league.
Sophomore guard
Shelby Van Huysen (Killingworth, CT) drained 5-of-8 three-pointers to lead Western New England with 15 points coming off the bench.
Freshman guard
Ali Pessolano (Hampden, MA) continued to play well making 5-of-7 field-goal attempts, including 2-of-4 treys, to finish with 12 points. She also grabbed four rebounds and had two steals.
A pair of sophomores, center
Elena Radzikowski (Medway, MA) and guard
Emily Savino (Ellington, CT) each contributed nine points.
Ten players scored points with five making at least one three-pointer.
Western New England, which led 47-19 at halftime, connected on 51.9% of its shots from the floor and held a decisive 35-25 advantage off the boards.
Senior guard
Sara Schwanke (Duxbury, MA) led the hosts with 23 points after making 7-of-12 field goals and all eight of her foul shots. She also pulled down seven rebounds and had three assists with a blocked shot.
Freshman forward
Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, VA) chipped-in with 15 points and three rebounds.
