Scoring Summary

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - For the second time this season the Western New England men's hockey team scored five goals against Salve Regina and this time it resulted in a win.

With two weeks left in the regular season, it couldn't have come at a better time as coach Greg Heffernan's team challenges for the league playoffs.

Junior forward Mike Kaselouskas (East Longmeadow, MA) scored two goals with a pair of assists and sophomore goalie T.J. Fatse (Hampden, MA) compiled 37 saves as the Golden Bears posted a 5-1 victory over the Seahawks Wednesday night (Feb. 9) at the Portsmouth Abbey Ice Rink.

Western New England avenged an earlier 7-5 loss to SRU back on December 4 in Springfield and raised its record to 6-15-1 overall and 3-8 in the ECAC Northeast. Salve Regina, who defeated Division II Stonehill 5-4 in its last start, drops to 2-17-1 and 1-9 in the league.

The Golden Bears jumped to a quick 2-0 lead following a power play goal by Kaselouskas just 2:27 into the game and a score by sophomore forward Blake Lucier (Scarborough, ME) at 9:37. The Seahawks finally got on the board when senior forward Brett Pimental (East Falmouth, MA) scored at the 12:07 mark. Freshman defenseman Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, MD) had the assist.

Freshman forward Dan Monahan (Monroe, NJ) gave Western New England a two-goal advantage with a goal at 14:26 of the second period. Kaselouskas and junior forward Kory Grahl (San Diego, CA) received the assists.

It was still close until the final four minutes when junior forward Rory Hansen (Noblesville, IN) scored at 16:20 with assists from Kaselouskas and freshman defenseman Eric Gethers (Ashburn, VA).

Kaselouskas iced the game with an empty net shot for his team-best 15th goal of the year with 14 seconds left as freshman defenseman Cam Napolitan (East Longmeadow, MA) gained the assist.

Fatse played a big part in the win by making 16 saves in the opening period and 13 in the final period for his first win of the year.

Freshman Ernest Foss (Rochester, NH) started in goal and gave up two goals while making four saves. Classmate J.C. Turgeon (Sherbrooke, QUE)  made 27 saves in 45 minutes, 35 seconds.
