CLERMONT, Fla.
– The Western New England softball team could not overcome its errors, dropping a pair of games at the National Training Center (NTC) to Ripon (5-1) and Bethel (16-14) on Sunday (Mar. 13) afternoon.

The Golden Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when senior first baseman Tricia Breault (Millville, MA) stole home on a delayed steal attempt by freshman Maria Francese (Dalton, MA).

Western New England managed just three hits on the game, as Ripon was led by sophomore pitcher Stephanie Rieuwpassa (Waukegan, IL) who went the distance while striking out seven batters.

Four of the five runs scored by Ripon were unearned, taking advantage of five errors by the Golden Bears.

In the second game of the day, Western New England held a 10-4 edge heading into the top of the 7th inning. Bethel battled back as the Royals scored six runs in the 7th and another six runs in the 8th to seal the victory.

The Golden Bears were led by senior catcher Elyse Gauvin (Swansea, MA) who was 3-for-5 with a triple and six RBI's.

Breault had an excellent game as she went 3-of-4 with five RBI's and two runs scored. Francese scored four runs from the lead-off slot.

Western New England returns to action with a pair of games on Monday (Mar. 14) morning, taking on SUNY Plattsburgh (9:30 a.m.) and Wisconsin Lutheran (11:30 a.m.) at the National Training Center.
