Box Score – Game 1

Box Score – Game 2

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England used timely hitting to record a sweep of Western New England, taking the first game 3-2 and scoring five runs in the fifth to earn a 7-4 victory in the second game on Thursday (Mar. 31) in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) play.

The Nor'easters improve their record to 15-5 overall and remain unbeaten in conference at 8-0. The Golden Bears slip to 5-11 on the year and currently have a 1-3 TCCC record.

Game 1 – University of New England 3, Western New England 2

The Nor'easters struck first with a pair of runs in the second inning coming off back-to-back doubles by junior designated player Marie Mantelli (Thompson, CT) and junior pitcher Erin Lyons (Salem, NH).

Western New England leveled the score at 2-2 as junior outfielder Rachel Wyrwa (Metheun, MA) blasted a two-run homer to centerfield with scored senior first baseman Tricia Breault (Millville, MA).

UNE jumped back in front thanks to a bases loaded wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth.

Lyons went the distance for UNE, striking out three to pick up the win.

Game 2 – University of New England 7, Western New England 4

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Golden Bears answered in the fifth as Wyrwa belted her second home-run of the day to tie the score.

Senior catcher Elyse Gauvin (Swansea, MA) hit an RBI triple to right-center, plating junior designated player Sarah Lempicki (Southington, CT) to give WNEC a brief 2-1 lead.

UNE stormed back in the bottom half of the inning with five runs to jump ahead 6-2.

Western New England's comeback attempt fell short as an RBI triple from freshman second baseman Maria Francese (Dalton, MA) and another RBI by Wyrwa were not enough to ignite the rally.
