SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Nichols men's tennis team completed a perfect season in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with a hard-earned 5-4 victory over Western New England Thursday afternoon (Apr. 21).
The Bison, who earned the top seed in the upcoming TCCC playoffs, improved their record to 14-4 overall and 10-0 in conference play.
The Golden Bears will receive the third seed in the post-season championship that begins on Monday (Apr. 25) after finishing the regular season with a school-record 13-4 record and 9-2 TCCC mark.
Western New England opened the match by winning two of the three doubles matches. Senior co-captains
Brian Relihan (Orange, CT) and
Mike Jones (Stone Ridge, NY) took an 8-3 decision at the top spot while senior
Matt Minahan (Plymouth, MA) and junior
Shawn Fitzpatrick (Burnt Hills, NY) came away with an 8-4 victory at the number three position.

Daniel Young (Washington Depot, CT) and freshman
Isiah Prosper (Manchester, NH) picked-up a crucial point with a close 8-6 win at the number two flight.

David Drucker (Bellmore, NY) posted a 6-2, 6-0 win number one singles for the visitors. Prosper and junior
Eliot Wuhrmann (Fontainbleau, France) took their number four and five matches in straight sets, respectively. Freshman
Piotr Pietruczuk (Norwich, CT) won his number six flight, also in straight sets.
Jones had an exciting match at number two singles, prevailing by the score of 6-2, 0-6, and 6-3. Sophomore
Chris Holzinger (Foster, RI) held on for a 7-6 (7-6), 6-2 decision at number three singles.
