SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England softball team split in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) doubleheader with Eastern Nazarene on Thursday (Apr. 7) afternoon. The Golden Bears won the first game 8-0 in five innings, while Eastern Nazarene scored six runs in the seventh inning for a 10-7 victory.
Western New England now stands at 11-12 with a 6-4 mark in TCCC play. Eastern Nazarene is now 8-14 with a 6-6 record in conference.
Game 1 – Western New England 8, Eastern Nazarene 0 (5 inn.)
The Golden Bears cruised to a win in game one, led by junior pitcher
Sarah Lempicki (Southington, CT) who tossed a one-hitter while striking out six.
WNEC grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first, as junior right fielder
Rachel Wyrwa (Metheun, MA) drilled a double to left center that scored senior first baseman
Tricia Breault (Millville, MA).
Freshman centerfielder
Maria Francese (Dalton, MA) reached with a bunt single, and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Lempicki.
With a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth, Western New England plated three more runs to seal the victory.

Game 2 – Eastern Nazarene 10, Western New England 7
Trailing 7-4 heading into the top of the seventh, Eastern Nazarene rallied for six runs on six hits to pull out the win.
The Lions struck first on a two-run homer by freshman second baseman
Taylor Fleming (Upland, IN).
Western New England tied it up at 2-2 on a sacrifice fly by Longo that scored Wyrwa.
Longo went 3-for-3 with a run scored to lead the way in game two.
Wyrwa, Eckert, and Breault each contributed two hits.
Eastern Nazarene cut the lead to 7-4 on a solo homerun to left center by junior left fielder
Laura Giberson (Hingham, MA).
Senior shortstop
Bethany Greenfield (Parsippany, NY) doubled home the first run of the seventh, and senior centerfielder
Amber Burns (Fall River, MA) hit an RBI triple to right field, scoring on an errant throw to tie the game at seven.
Sophomore designated player
Jamie Block (Pembroke, MA) plated two runs on a single to right to add a pair of insurance runs for ENC.
The Lions held a 14-11 edge in hits, and capitalized on three errors in the final inning by Western New England.
The Golden Bears return to action on Saturday (Apr. 9) with a TCCC doubleheader at noon against Wentworth.
