Emerson Lions take top honors at the WNE Invitational with a perfect 4-0 record

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -
Emerson won three matches to capture first place honors at the WNE Women's Invitational Saturday (Sept. 10) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center (AHLC).

The Lions defeated host Western New England 3-2 in their closest match, Westfield State 3-1, and Colby-Sawyer 3-0 to cap a perfect 4-0 record in the two-day event.

Senior outside hitter Megan Kaplon (Yellow Springs, OH) was selected the Tournament MVP.

The Golden Bears also dropped a 3-1 decision to Western Connecticut to finish with a 1-3 record in the event. WNE has a 3-5 overall mark.

Freshman libero Grace Kucharski (Avon, CT) made the All-Tournament Team.
after compiling a team-high 63 digs in 17 sets (3.7 average).

Western New England freshman outside hitter Kasey Cameron (Reading, MA) and sophomore outside hitter Maureen Pollett (Dix Hills, NY) compiled 39 and 32 kills, respectively, in the tournament. Freshman setter Val Smith (Norristown, PA) contributed 119 assists.

Despite dropping three of four matches, the WNE played some terrific volleyball in the tournament and gave champion Emerson its toughest battle before finally losing 15-13 decision in the fifth  set.
