SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Defending Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) champion Nichols posted a 9-0 victory over Western New England in the women's tennis opener for both squads Saturday afternoon (Sept. 3).
Sophomore
Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, NY) and freshman
Lindsay Benoit (Holden, MA) led the way by posting an 8-1 win at the number one doubles position. Dyakiv also took a 6-1, 6-1 decision at the number one singles spot. Benoit competed a successful college debut with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the number two singles flight.
The Golden Bears came through with several close and exciting matches in the loss.
Senior
Nicole DeSimone (Feeding Hills, MA) dropped a 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (12-10) match at number three singles while senior
Jess Haffner (Suffield, CT) came out of the short end in a 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9) battle at the number four flight.
In doubles action, Haffner and senior
Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, MA) dropped a hard-fought 9-7 decision at the number two position. Senior
Lori Pagliano (Milford, CT) and sophomore
Kelsey Grode (Fairview, PA) fell 8-6 at the third spot.
