Curry defeats Western New England 69-60 in Commonwealth Coast Conference contest

MILTON, Mass. – Junior forward Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, MA) had a double- double with 20 points and 19 rebounds as the Curry men's basketball team defeated Western New England 69-60 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) game Tuesday (Jan. 17). Jones also had four assists and three steals.

Senior guard Michael Connery (Narragansett, RI) added 11 points and five rebounds for the Colonels (5-8) who evened their conference record at 3-3. The Golden Bears (4-9) fall to 1-6 in CCC play after suffering their fifth consecutive loss.

Curry received a big lift from its reserves who scored 25 points, including nine from sophomore guard Abel Ribeiro (Charlestown, MA).

Western New England trailed by only one at halftime (32-31), but came out strong scoring the first eight points after the break to take a 39-32 advantage after sophomore forward Daniel Minto (West Hempstead, NY) made a jumper at the 17:20 mark.

Curry came back to tie the game at 41-41 with 13:51 to play and there were four more ties over the next six minutes. The Colonels then scored seven straight points for a 57-50 lead after sophomore guard Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, MA) made a pair of foul shots with 5:28 remaining. Jones then had a dunk to give the hosts their biggest lead at 65-53 with 2:07 left.

Senior guard Andre Shaw (New York, NY) led Western New England with 18 points. Junior guard Damon Alston (New Britain, CT) netted 11 points.

Sophomore forward Dennis Rinaldi (Harrison, NY) chipped-in with nine points while Minto had eight points. Both players pulled down four rebounds.

Sophomore guard Ryan Mickiewicz (East Longmeadow, MA) scored only six points, but had a team best six rebounds along with three steals and a pair of assists.

Western New England finished shooting just 34.5% from the field and 66.7% from the foul line. Curry made 40.0% of its field-goal attempts and went 76.0% from the charity stripe. The Colonels also had a 42-32 advantage in rebounding.
