BRISTOL, R.I. – The Western New England women's basketball team came through with its best showing of the season by posting a 66-46 victory over Roger Williams Thursday evening (Jan. 19). The Golden Bears shot a season high 47.4% from the field in winning for the fourth time in their last five outings.
Western New England is now 6-9 overall and 5-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).
Junior guard
Emily Savino (Ellington, CT) led four players in double figures with 19 points with seven assists. Sophomore guard
Ali Pessolano (Hampden, MA) continued her fine play with 12 points (4-of-9 three-pointers).
Senior forward
Sarah Proper (Coxsackie, NY) compiled her fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Freshman center
Sam McCann (Warren, MA) also netted 12 points with six rebounds.
It was a close game for the opening 13 minutes as the teams battled to a 17-17 tie. WNE ended the half with a 12-5 run to take a 29-22 advantage.
Western New England pulled away in the second half taking a 56-40 lead following a three-pointer by sophomore guard
Katie Eckert (Lee, MA) with 6:33 to play. The Golden Bears, who shot 57.7% from the field in the second half, held the hosts to just six points the rest of the way.

Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, CT) led Roger Williams with 12 points, five rebounds, and three blocks. Senior forward
Paige Congdon (Westwood, MA) and freshman guard
Lauren Stumper (Simsbury, CT) each contributed six points with Congdon also pulling down a team best nine rebounds.
The Hawks (8-7, 5-3 CCC) had a rough shooting performance making only 34.0% of its field-goal attempts and 52.9% of its foul shots.
Western New England held a 39-27 advantage off the boards.
